Team Beachbody’s P90x fitness program is making waves all over the fitness industry. I don’t know many people who haven’t heard about it. I also have several friends who do this workout religiously and swear by it. So just what is P90x? And does it really work? (To find out more about Team Beachbody and their products, please see my complete third party review (Team Beachbody: Opportunity or Scam?).
Just What is P90x?
Team Beachbody’s P90x is a 90 day extreme home fitness program. It combines a variety of exercise techniques including strength training, cardio, yoga, plyometrics, and stretching. I’ve looked at this program and have seen it in action and let me tell you if you order P90x… get ready for a challenging workout series. The workout training program is lead by Tony Horton (who also helped develop this program) and not only is he a world class trainer, he is also an excellent motivator. As Tony says “Do your best… and forget the rest!”
P90x was designed using the science of “Muscle Confusion.” I know a lot of you have heard before (if you’ve been into fitness) that you have to switch up your workouts every couple of weeks due to “muscle memory”. The theory of muscle memory says that if you keep doing the same fitness routine day-in and day-out, in time your muscles will get numbed down by these repetitious workouts and you will reach a plateau and won’t be able to get any further with your fitness results. In short, you will stop seeing results if you don’t switch up your workout. This theory is what the P90x exercise program is based upon (and this one thing alone will make this a much more effective program than most of the others).
With P90x you will be on a 3 weeks on, 1 week off program: you will go through a series of exercises for three weeks and then have a recovery week. After that it’s on to three more weeks of completely different exercises before another recovery week. This change up of the workout “confuses” your muscles and they have to work harder and therefore you won’t plateau. Because your muscles will never become accustomed to one workout, you will only get stronger and you WILL see results.
What You Get with P90x
P90x goes for about $120. That may seem a bit steep but, in my opinion, you do get a lot of bang for your buck here. When you order your program you receive i) 12 highly diverse workout programs (on 12 dvd’s), ii) a 3-phase nutrition plan (tells you what to eat to change the way your body uses food), iii) P90x fitness guide (customize your workout), iv) a “How to Bring It” video (overview of program and tips on how to get started), v) fitness calendar (schedule your workouts) and vi) 24/7 online support (fitness experts and peer support).
The 12 workout programs (each on it’s own dvd) are:
- Chest and Back
- Plyometrics
- Shoulders and Arms
- Yoga X
- Legs and Back
- Kenpo X
- X Stretch
- Core Synergistics
- Chest, Shoulders and Triceps
- Back and Biceps
- Cardio X
- Ab Ripper X
These are all pretty self-explanatory and, as you can see, this is a FULL body approach to working out. I love fitness and this looks to be an all-inclusive, impressive program.

P90x Reviews
All in all P90x has gotten rave reviews. The only con’s I have seen is that it’s a little pricey and time consuming. But as with any fitness program if you don’t actually put it use you will not see any results (and that takes time!). If you want real change you are definitely going to have to put the time and effort required into whatever it is you want to achieve. I can guarantee you when you combine the right nutrition with the right training YOU ABSOLUTELY WILL SEE CHANGE.
